Laptop battery icon shows "plugged in, not charging"


In Laptop, if you play with power management options without knowing what your doing and your laptop notification area battery icon shows the message "plugged in, not charging" while charging. To solve this issue Uninstalling and reinstalling power management software in Windows

In order to correct problems with the battery's power management software, follow the steps below.

1. Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager .
2. Expand the Batteries category.
3. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall .
WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
4. On the Device Manager task bar, click Scan for hardware changes .
Alternately, select Action > Scan for hardware changes .
Windows will scan your computer for hardware that doesn't have drivers installed, and will install the drivers needed to manage your battery's power. The laptop should now indicate that the battery is charging.

  1. From what I've read, this is a very common battery issue and I was also in the same situation with my laptop. Fortunately, I've fixed it very easily... I don't know when I disabled something from the driver's software.
    If my friend who works at IT services Toronto wouldn't told me what to do, I think I would continued to find a solution.

  2. Before adapting this solution you have to check the Laptop working in AC power without Battery to confirm the power adapter is working. If it is then, unplug the adapter and use battery mode for some time and check the Battery Icon status changing. If it is working then try the above solution.
